‘Helen’ Video installation.
Every Sunday in the village of Rathlee, Co. Sligo, Helen walks on her own the 10 mile return trip to the Seafield Hotel. She leaves home at 6 p.m. and doesn’t return until 2 a.m., all for her two hours of dancing to country and western music. Her sheer tenacity and determination to undertake this journey through some of Europe’s worst wind and rain storms is something to behold, gaining her respect from all those around. As her 80 year old neighbour Martin John states, “Helen is a gas woman.”
In the Mezzanine:
10pm - 2am - 8/6 concession, at the door

Vocal Performance. A tribute to and an art performance of Kurt Schwitters’ abstract poem “Merz 24”, more commonly known as the Ursonata. Inspired by Raoul Hausmann’s earliest phonetic poem “Rfmsbwe” written in 1 8, it consists of 4 movements, each verbally displaying and phonetically undoing, manipulating, and recombining letters, syllables, and systems from the German alphabet with an emphasis on pronunciation and intonation - out of which rhythm forms.
