ArtTrail announce Writer In Residence Award

Fiona Fullam has been selected as the ArtTrail Writer In Residence 2009.

This award is offered in association with Visual Artists Ireland.

Fiona will have a short text published in the ArtTrail festival catalogue, will contribute to a regular blog on the ArtTrail website during the events, and will be commissioned to write a feature review of the festival in the next issue of the Visual Artists Newssheet (VAN).

REDISCOVERING LOCALITY

What precisely is “locality” and why is it only now being “rediscovered”? Are we to understand that it has somehow been recently ignored, overlooked, unseen, lost or hiding and therefore in need of being uncovered, unearthed, made visible, audible, palpable. In the march towards globalisation, has the local become marginalised? And if so, what steps can be taken to undo this amnesia? Rediscovering implies that though locality may have been temporarily forgotten, that it nonetheless always existed and exists, needing only new recognition.
